Mummy Monday's #3
If you are squeamish or disgusted by this topic.. Don't read! Some bits are crude.
My Labour and Birth Story!
I decided a few weeks back to do a 3 parter for my mummy Monday's.. My love story and pregnancy was the first part- This is the second part and life with a child will be the last part.
So here goes.. All information is correct as I remember it, but times may be slightly out. Can you blame me? I was in agony not checking the time!
Saturday 13th June 9 am- I had woken up with wet underwear not soaking but enough to make me think. I went to the toilet and sorted myself out and returned back to bed.
10 am Woke back up and went to the toilet to check, this is where I had found my plug had come away. Visualize snot on a tissue and you are halfway there. My anxiety started. I was 38 weeks pregnant. He can't come yet. He's not finished cooking. Obviously I wasn't aware that babies can come naturally early! Clearly! I phoned around to my mother and Chris' mother who confirmed that Noah was certainly on his way and it could take up to 2 weeks!
12 pm I kept feeling like i had wet myself, I had pads in but they were filling fast. I rang the maternity unit who agreed that my waters were slowly leaking and to come in when I started having regular pain.. This is my eyes was going to be days away, so I carried on my day as usual.
3 pm Not contractions but period pain in my belly and back! Pain that would make you stop and take a breather. I decided that I wouldn't be useful to anyone in pain, so I went to rest and napped!
8 pm Cramps were becoming stronger and to get my mind off it, me and Chris jumped into my car and headed to my mums. She only lives a 10 minute drive away, so I wasn't doing any harm.
I arrived at my mums feeling sorry for myself and cuddled up with Chris on her sofa. The pain was getting stronger but still cramps. Out of the blue I asked if she had any tinned pineapples. I knew the old wife's tale that it would help and I was getting desperate to get this show on the road! She had but they were 3 years out of date! I am a massive germaphobe/An in date eater. I will not touch anything out of date. But 10 minutes of my mum convincing me I wasn't going to die, because they had been preserved in juice and not been opened, I tried them. I had 3 rings and gave up! I felt sick. But I will tell you now- They worked!
11 pm My cramps had turned into contractions, irregular but still contractions. I rang the maternity unit to update them and they said again to ring when they became regular!
1 am Contractions were coming thick and fast! Every 3 minutes lasting at least a minute at a time! Ouch! I then made the 45 minute journey to hospital. My mum drove, whilst I was in the back seat trying not to scream! I kept asking if I would have Noah in my arms by the next day. I was still convinced they would send me home and I would be in this amount of pain all week!
2.30 am Just been checked and 3cm! Enough to save me the journey home, I settled into the ward with my good old bestie Gas and Air! This was amazing and I would take it 10 times over!
5 am Still labouring but checked again- 6cm! Noah did not want to wait to meet his mummy! By this time my contractions were coming one after the other. I wasn't having a break and it was getting quite scary and painful. I had already gone through one massive canister of Gas and Air and my second one was heading up to me! My midwife also broke the rest of my waters. Fun Fact.. I didn't know you had more than one waters!
6 am Moved down to the delivery suite and the first place I dart to is the bathroom. The overwhelming feeling of needing to Poop! Obviously the birth canal and the back passage are very close together and as Noah was descending.. The feeling got stronger. At this point- I had been labouring through the night, I was shattered and in agony. I just wanted 5 minutes pain free! I screamed to Chris that I couldn't push it out. I'll leave you to figure what I meant! The midwife hurried in and realized I was at the pushing stage and quickly hurried me onto the bed. Not even 10 cms and he wanted to come out!
7 am Excuse my crudeness but the pushing part hurts like a bitch! Every time I tried to push I could feel myself ripping and it got me scared and panicky that I couldn't get him out. After 15 minutes Noah's head was born and the body came shortly afterwards.
7.17 am Noah was finally born and placed straight on my chest. In the moment I was overwhelmed, then it hit me.. He wasn't breathing and he was whisked away and I watched on as he was lifeless. After a few minutes he let out a small yelp and a teeny scream. Nevertheless My baby was finally here!
So that's it. My short and sweet labour and birth story!
Until Next time!
